Coconut Ginger Ice Cream Recipe: This is one we should try, is excellent and very easy, great recipe for children
I made this dessert for my last class in culinary school. We had to prepare a dessert with a meal of four dishes, which had to complete before we were able to move forward. We had to select from a hat Items to be prepared, and do so in a period of time slotted to be graded. We knew we had to make a dessert, and were allowed to wear any product in the class that is to be used within reason. I decided to bring in rock salt, Coconut Milk and shredded coconut. We always had fresh ginger, nutmeg and sugar at our disposal, so I knew I would have at my disposal to any dish. I strongly believe that my instructors loved my coconut dessert plate because they ate every last bite, and got a perfect score.
This is a great recipe, and is fun to do, and probably the easiest do, too. I'm glad I'm able to share this recipe with you!
Ingredients you need:
1 can coconut milk (or) 16 oz
1 / 4 teaspoon fresh ginger
1 / 2 cup shredded coconut
1 / 8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 / 4 cup sugar – can be much less on the sugar if you like. Adjust to taste. If you want to remove it completely that it is an option too. You can use a sugar substitute, but follow the directions on the box.
2 cups of rock salt
4-5 cups of cubed or crushed ice.
4 small molds
2 bags large, sealable
1 cup mixed
You are now ready to make your ice cream. In a bowl add the 16 ounces of coconut milk. It is always best to shake the can of coconut milk before opening, to get the accumulated fat coconut milk solids incorporated back into the liquid. You ten cut a piece of ginger and peel, then cut it and make a paste, and add to milk. Add the nutmeg and sugar, and giving is a good mix. You'll have to try to ensure component that has the flavor you want. You can add more nutmeg or ginger now it is time to do so.
If you are a diabetic can use a sugar substitute, or no sugar at all. I have not tried it without sugar, so you might be interested in any information on this subject. I think it would work well.
You now have to prepare for the fun to begin. You can roast the coconut before or after. Just get a frying pan small, and add your coconut to a pan over med high heat to med and stir until golden brown. Remove from pan and save to cover your finished ice cream later.
Scoop ice cream mixture to the zip lock bag first and make sure it is sealed well. If you have a rubber band to turn to not flapping around this is a good thing. In your second bag that will add half of rock salt, and half the ice into the bag. Next Ad your code first zip lock bag with milk mixture, then the rest of the ice and rock salt. Then let the children take over if he is helping.
This is best done outside in an area that will not matter if things get a little out of hand. You have to stir vigorously for about 5-10 minutes, or until the milk starts to become frozen solid. Next, remove the bag of ice and rock salt. Mix very gently with cold water and dry. Immediately put the semi-frozen mixture into molds, and put in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes. Pull from freezer and add your toasted coconut on top and dig in.
I love this recipe, and it's so fun to do. It is also one of the best desserts I've ever eaten as well.

How do you grow coconut trees?
Could you just buy coconuts from the store and stick the in the ground? That works with the seeds of some store bought foods, I know that. But is that how you’d plant a coconut tree anyway? Just wondering.
It depends a lot on how the coconuts were handled before reaching the store and how long its been since they were harvested. Cold storage temperatures for example will destroy the embryo. The viability of most tropical seeds diminishes quickly with time. As a quick test before you buy it, shake the nut. If you can’t hear the coconut water sloshing around inside, it’s already a goner. Try another one.
Germinate them by placing them on their side in a sandy bed with about one third of the nut exposed. Keep the sand below the surface moist but not wet. Keep warm if you’re not in a tropical location. They’ll germinate best with a daytime temperature of about 90 degrees F. They will first produce a single fleshy root out the bottom of the nut. Then a small split will appear in the top of the nut from which the shoot will emerge. This will take about a month if your conditions are right.
